2019 Penfolds, Grange, Bin 95, AustraliaDark, dank and immaculate. The oak handling and tannic precision boast ample class. Beneath lurks a latent, molten beauty that will unravel eventually. I like this Grange. I feel that the decadent style, molten and fleshy, is well suited to the drought vintage and its thick grape skin tannic scour. With subtle red fruit aromas mingling with bramble fruits on the expressive palate

Enormous depth

There is concentration here

along with red cherry notes from the Sangiovese

The bouquet is not especially forthcoming but suggests underlying class

grippy tannins and well-judged acidity keep it all in balance on the long and fine finish

a vintage which supported the plentiful use of whole bunch fermentation

It perfectly combines American Oak sherry and this distillery’s much-loved spirit

I very much like the seductive texture and overall this robust effort is going to need plenty of time in a cool cellar as it is clearly built to age
