Traditionally used in the south west of France for preserving duck or goose confit, these utilitarian pottery vessels were designed with a glazed upper section and unglazed lower body. The porous clay base allowed the pot to be partially buried in cool earth or a cellar floor to help keep the contents preserved. This example features a rich green glaze
